Biodiversity Monitoring and Assessment in Nepal KMTNC
 
Guidelines for Biodiversity Assessment and Monitoring for Protected Areas Guidelines for Biodiversity Assessment and Monitoring for Protected Areas - launched June 05

These Guidelines are based on the practical experience of KMNTC and UNEP-WCMC in the development of a biodiversity monitoring system for the Annapurna Conservation Area.
Project Outputs include:
  • Training staff of KMTNC in biodiversity assessment and monitoring techniques for the partcipatory management of protected areas;
  • Guidelines for Biodiversity Assessment and Monitoring in Protected Areas” in English and later to be translated into Nepali;
  • Publications describing the impacts of the protected area on the livelihoods of local people, the biodiversity of the Annapurna Protected Area, and the role of tourism in these impacts;
  • A final project workshop to disseminate the results of the project in Nepal.
 
The project also produced a report with recommendations for the management of the ACA, based on the outcomes of the field research and recommendations on further development of biodiversity assessment and monitoring capacity.
