March 2004 Training in social survey techniques, including assessment of biodiversity resources, of 25 ACAP staff by Nepalese consultants. Training in participatory forest inventory techniques of 18 ACAP staff by senior KMTNC staff members.

Further training of fifteen KMTNC staff in Nepal by UNEP-WCMC staff and consultants in biodiversity monitoring techniques and the design of a monitoring programme, building on initial field experiences. Scheduled field testing of survey techniques to develop monitoring protocols for snow leopard, blue sheep, grassland habitats, forest quality and forest birds.

   
September 2003 First draft of Guidelines on biodiversity assessment and monitoring in protected areas.
   
May 2003 Eleven KMTNC staff trained in biodiversity monitoring techniques and the design of monitoring programme for ACAP. Training delivered by staff trained at UNEP-WCMC. Start of field testing of survey techniques for Cheer pheasant and vultures.
   
March 2003

Training in scientific and participatory techniques for biodiversity assessment and monitoring for six KMTNC staff at UNEP-WCMC. This included training in relevant GIS techniques at the University of Edinburgh for the KMTNC GIS officer.

   
February 2003 Philip Bubb, UNEP-WCMC, visited Nepal to plan training and a draft action plan for establishing biodiversity assessment and monitoring in ACA.
   
November 2002

Siddhartha Bajracharya received training at the University of Edinburgh and UNEP-WCMC in techniques for biodiversity assessment and monitoring and the analysis of the fieldwork results.

   
August 2002

Planning and technical support visit by Prof. Peter Furley (University of Edinburgh) to Nepal.

 
July 2002

Project Launched and fieldwork started in Annapurna Conservation Area - surveying forest quality and evidence of key wildlife species in relation to distance from villages, as well as interviews with villagers to assess their perceptions and the impact of the ACA conservation measures.
